Polar Despair Bear epitomizes the devastating environmental impact of consumerism, exacerbated by the globalization of industry. The abstract bust of a polar bear, the poster child of global warming, is composed of layered plastic shopping bags melted onto a wire frame. The sculpture replicates a piece of taxidermy, a trophy boastfully displayed as an egotistical symbol of wealth, power, and privilege.
